Unique, creative, innovative, state-of-the-art – this is how the new Machine Design Laboratory of the University of Debrecen’s Faculty of Technology can be described. The development of HUF 20 million was inaugurated on Tuesday on the campus of Ótemető Street. Mechanical engineering students will use the high-tech design lab, set up in cooperation with Krones Hungary Ltd., during their bachelor and master courses.
Creativity was essential in creating the workshop; for example, the tables were designed in the shape of the Krones logo. The room, equipped with the latest industrial technology, will support the practical education of all mechanical engineering students. “We painted this lab together; we built it together, so we will be delighted to welcome the students here next week, among other things, to teach the subjects of the mechanical engineering bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, CAD systems, and the machine design specialisation, which was developed together with Krones,” Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Tamás Mankovits said.
Krones Hungary financed the establishment of the laboratory to strengthen its ties with the University of Debrecen’s Faculty of Technology. This makes the German food machinery manufacturer the sixth company to provide engineering students with a laboratory equipped with its products.
The Debrecen subsidiary of the group also provides professional support for the education of the Faculty of Technology with lectures. “We believe that a successful company needs good professionals; good professionals acquire the basis of their expertise in educational institutions, and we believe that this is a very important factor in which we would like to participate actively,” Managing Director of Krones Hungary Ltd., Zoltán Kocsis emphasised.
All economic companies operating in the city are an essential market for students studying at the university. Krones Hungary currently employs 40 design engineers, most of whom graduated from the Faculty of Engineering.
“We have plenty of capacity in this, so we are looking forward to state-funded applicants, applicants on a fee-paying basis, and foreign students from all our faculties and majors. Together with them, we will admit more than 10,000 students this year as well,” Chancellor of the University of Debrecen, Zoltán Bács, pointed out.
Mayor László Papp said at the lab handover that the economic and industrial development taking place in the city has many positive changes. Many of the world’s most prominent economic players are settling in Debrecen. “I am often asked what the city benefits from this. Well, among other things, the possibility of cooperation between economy and science, as well as economy and education,” László Papp emphasised.
More than 800 students study at the University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering. From next week, their schedule will also include practical courses to be completed in the new lab.
