On September 26, 2023 (Tuesday), between 2 and 6 p.m., this year’s European Language Cocktail Bar will welcome its guests in the main building of the University of Debrecen, in the Díszudvar. September 26 is the Day of Languages: the Cocktail Bar is all about getting to know foreign languages and cultures. We mainly invite secondary school students, but also university students, to participate in mini language classes and visit exhibitions showcasing languages and cultures presented by European embassies and cultural institutes. Eleven cultural institutes will exhibit in the Díszudvar of the University of Debrecen, representing Dutch, Estonian, German, Romanian, Swiss, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Chinese, and Roma languages. Visitors to the Cocktail Bar can also learn about foreign companies operating in Debrecen.
The location in Debrecen provides an opportunity for the people of Debrecen to acquaint themselves with the institutions representing foreign languages and cultures in Budapest without having to travel to the capital. The exhibition stands will offer linguistic games, country knowledge puzzles, useful information about learning both domestic and foreign languages, and valuable gifts provided by the staff of language and cultural institutes. Those who participate in the twenty-minute language lessons may easily develop an interest in learning a new language. Everyone who registers and attends will receive a language passport (EUROPASS), and if you collect 4 stamps, you’ll receive a non-alcoholic cocktail! Those who collect 7 stamps can enter a prize draw and have a chance to win a language course, a language book, or a free language test (you can find the game rules here: https://www.nyelvikoktelbar.eu/).
The National Cultural Institutes of the European Union (EUNIC), the University of Debrecen, and the German Cultural Forum of Debrecen warmly welcome teachers and student groups interested in languages to the Festival Hall of the University of Debrecen on September 26!
