An exhibition of the school’s art teacher, József Toró, entitled “An Hour-Off” (In Hungarian: Lyukasóra) was opened in the Varjúvár Gallery of the Kós Károly Art Secondary School.
József Toró gave his exhibition an eye-catching name. One reason is that the teacher regularly uses his free hours to create. A key art teacher at the school, he has been involved in the school’s professional work for nearly two decades and has also played an active role in strengthening art education. The artist will soon retire, so his students and fellow teachers are paying tribute to his teaching and artistic work with the exhibition.
At the exhibition’s opening ceremony, Deputy Mayor István Puskás also praised the artist. He said talent development is of paramount importance for Debrecen. Art teachers play a prominent role in culture and creative activities. “They can not only help students develop, but they can also set a good example, for example, by showing their art during an exhibition, so they not only teach students in class, but they can also show the example they have set before them,” István Puskás pointed out.
