Taxation & Tax card
To earn legal income, own property, or receive tax benefits in Hungary, you need a tax identification number and the corresponding tax card.
1.Applying for Tax Card
Anyone who earns income subject to income tax in Hungary, benefits from a tax break, opens a bank account or buys real estate in the country is required to obtain a tax identification number. The tax identification number is printed on the tax card.
All Hungarian citizens, EU citizens and third-country nationals must apply for a tax card.
Applications can be made online on the NAV Online Form Filling Service (ONYA) interface, by phone (by calling 1819), by post (NAV customer service & submitting âT34 form) or in person (NAV customer service & submitting âT34 form).
The documents required to apply are:
- An identification card, driving licence or passport
- Address card
- Non-Hungarian citizens must attach a copy of their valid identification document to their declaration of citizenship
Related costs: Obtaining a tax identification number and tax card is free of charge.
When applying for a tax identification number, a valid passport and a completed application form must be presented. (Fill up the form using a blue pen, with block capital letters, and submit it in person).
