St. Anne’s Cathedral stands as a beacon of spiritual heritage and architectural beauty in Hungary’s second-largest city. Serving as the cathedral of the Debrecen–Nyíregyháza Diocese since 1993, it is a place where faith, art, and community converge.
Designed by Milanese architect Giovanni Battista Carlone and constructed between 1721 and 1746, the cathedral is a masterpiece of Baroque and Louis Seize styles. Its interior captivates visitors with its elegant design, drawing the eye toward the altar and the painted ceiling above. A certified replica of the Turin Shroud has been on display in the building since 2011, adding to its historical and spiritual significance.
The cathedral operates on three main pillars: church services, art, and diaconate. It offers a welcoming space for reflection, prayer, and connection, embodying the belief that the sacred and the ordinary are intertwined. The light of the Lord is seen as shining through human experiences of joy and sorrow alike.
Masses are held daily, with Sunday services at 7:00 am, 8:30 am, 10:00 am, 11:30 am, and 6:00 pm. Weekday services are at 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, and on Saturdays, there is an anticipatory Mass at 6:00 pm.
Whether you’re seeking spiritual solace, architectural wonder, or a glimpse into Hungary’s rich Catholic heritage, St. Anne’s Cathedral offers a profound and welcoming experience.
