Halms Hungary Kft. is setting up a production plant in the Southern Economic Zone of Debrecen.

Halms Hungary Kft. is a Hungarian subsidiary of Zhejiang Huashuo Technology of China, specializing in light metal casting, mainly aluminum alloy components for electric car batteries and electric control units. Its partners include Volvo, Mercedes, Jaguar, LG and companies already present in Debrecen such as Schaeffler, Vitesco Technologies and ThyssenKrupp.

Levente Magyar, parliamentary state secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said that this is yet another investment in the electric car industry in Debrecen.

Managing Director of Halms Hungary Kft. Matthew Shen said the Debrecen plant will be the company’s first investment outside China, adding that Debrecen will produce aluminum housings for electric motors, mainly for the European market, including Tesla.

Deputy Mayor of Debrecen Lajos Barcsa stressed that the government’s policy of opening up to China can be seen in Debrecen. The Zhejiang Huashuo Technology plant will be the third Chinese investment in the Southern Economic Zone, after Semcorp and CATL. Together, these companies will create nearly 10,000 new jobs in the city. According to the deputy mayor, Debrecen will become a center of electromobility.

The investment, supported by the Hungarian state with HUF 1.5 billion, is worth EUR 43 million (HUF 17.3 billion), the state secretary said.
