The Hungarian education system generally provides free education for children. Kindergarten education takes place in nursery schools under the supervision of kindergarten teachers, assisted by qualified support staff (carers or nannies). Primary education is provided in schools with a standardised structure of 8 classes, including primary education (from grade 1 to grade 4) and lower secondary education (from grade 5 to grade 8). Secondary education is provided in gymnasiums/general secondary schools, vocational colleges and technical schools, while higher education institutions include colleges and universities.
