Exhibition titled ‘Tojama, before the earthquake’ opened in the Egri Borbarát (Friends of Wine) Bar Gallery on Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street on the 11th of January.
The colourful exotic landscapes and genre pictures selected by the curator János Tóth are award-winning works by Tojama County photographers. Several of the creators have participated in artist camps in Debrecen and Hajdú-Bihar County over the past decades.
The exhibition was opened by István Pinczés, the artistic director of the Tojama Association, and was guided by personal memories. (The Jászai Mari and Uchimura award-winning director visited the landscapes shown in the pictures 70 times in 40 years.) Members of the performing arts section of the Tojama Association also participated in the opening.
With the exhibition, on the initiative of the owner István Kovács, the organisers commemorate the victims of the 7.6 magnitude earthquake that struck the west coast of Japan in the first days of the year, when a total of more than 400 earthquakes and aftershocks devastated the region over the course of several days, resulting in nearly 80 deaths. The epicentre of the second strongest earthquake in the history of Japan was about 80 kilometres northwest of the city of Toyama.
The exhibition can be visited until the 13th of February.
