The most significant changes in corporate taxation, green taxes and the digitalisation of businesses were also discussed at the PwC Hungary Forum, where representatives of companies in the region could get answers to their questions. Last year, the world’s leading audit, business, and tax advisory firm announced the opening of its office in Debrecen.

Last year alone, more than HUF 400 billion worth of job-creating investments arrived in Debrecen. The large companies previously established here are also followed by their suppliers and business service companies. Among them is PwC Hungary, one of the world’s leading audit, business and tax advisory firms, which announced the opening of an office in Debrecen in February. It marks a new level of economic development for the firms.

“There are many questions, for example, about taxation and other activities where they need advice. That’s why it’s important to have international consultancy firms like PwC in the city because then these businesses can get the right international advice,” Deputy Mayor of Debrecen Lajos Barcsa emphasised.

The PwC Tax and Legal Forum provided an overview of changes affecting corporate taxation, such as the global minimum tax, but also focused on the opportunities for corporate digitalisation and green issues, including the so-called carbon tax.

“Certain product ranges imported from third countries are also affected by the regulation, in connection with which taxpayers from 2025 will be liable to pay a surcharge if importing from this product range. From the 1st  of January this year, data services must be provided, for example, for iron, steel and aluminium products. Still, the range of products is much wider than this,” partner of PwC Hungary Gábor Farkas said.

At the event, Zsolt Spander, the county director of the National Tax and Customs Office (NAV), summarised the previous year’s experience, this year’s control directions, and official tools to help law-abiding taxpayers.

“We are talking about a supporting procedure, respectively those forms of control that are not aimed at sanctioning, but at supporting compliance with the law. This includes one of the target groups of our event, the inspection of priority taxpayers, which is mandatory for the NAV, for example, among the comprehensive inspection of high taxpayers every four years,” Zsolt Spander said.

In addition to discussing current taxation issues, the professional PwC Hungary Forum in Debrecen also provided an opportunity to build relationships.
