Six of these special street furniture await the people of Debrecen in the Csapókert. By scanning a QR code, passers-by can choose from the works of the authors marked on the bench without a storybook.

Children listened attentively to the story on Liget Square on the 10rh of  May 2024. Everyone has a nice story, and so do the children. This time, however, the children were not told stories from books as usual, but from benches. The story-telling benches quickly won over the neighbourhood. This is the first place in Debrecen where you can meet these special street furniture.

“A lot of children and families come out here to Liget Square and I think it’s a tiny little gift for them when grandma or mom sits down on the bench, relaxes and reads this story. I think it’s a very nice initiative, I’m glad that we have this wonderful place, which is really suitable to start such a special thing,” municipal representative Edina Szilágyi  said.

The benches work simply. All you need to do is scan the QR code, which will redirect you to a web page where you can choose what you want to read.

“The story-telling bench is aimed primarily at young families or even if someone comes with a grandparent, but it also tries to implement the old habit of reading stories in public spaces,” Deputy Mayor István Puskás said.

It is planned to place story-telling benches in several places in the city.
