László Papp, Mayor of Debrecen, spoke about the developments of recent years at the Portfolio Economic Forum.
The portal organises a national roadshow to help local businesses make informed decisions. At the event, companies from Eastern Hungary could learn about how to increase their competitiveness.
According to the organisers, there is still plenty of room for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and even large companies to improve their competitiveness. The experts help them to do this by providing up-to-date economic and financial information. The forum was told that the government’s target is for GDP growth of 2.5% this year, which is expected to rise to over 4% next year.
The last ten years of Debrecen have shown that the competitiveness of a city makes an incredible contribution to the country’s economic growth, as mayor László Papp has said. The mayor pointed out that the city has attracted EUR 12.5 billion in working capital and almost 20,000 new jobs have been created or will be created in the coming years.
“This foreshadows that Debrecen is indeed on the threshold of a great economic success, which should have a clear positive impact on the income situation, job opportunities, working conditions and the overall development of the economy and the city,” the mayor stressed.
At the conference, DTV interviewed Gergely Suppan, Deputy State Secretary for Macroeconomic Analysis. The video can be viewed here.
