The surface of an outdoor artificial grass field covering has been completely renewed, the lighting on several pitches has been upgraded and a number of other improvements have recently been completed at the Pallag training centre. Investments for football youth education were financed from TAO (corporation tax allowance) and own funds by DVSC Football Academy Nonprofit Ltd.

The DVSC Football Academy convened a press conference on Tuesday afternoon at the training centre in Pallag, where Mayor László Papp and the CEO of DVSC Football PLC Balázs Makray, spoke about the developments that had been implemented. The surface of the artificial grass field No. 2 at the DVSC Football Academy’s training centre in Pallag has been completely renewed, and the dismantled surface has been installed in the indoor hall, while maintaining its quality. At the same time, the lamps of tracks 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 were replaced with modern, economical lighting, the cables were replaced, and switchboards were converted and renovated. In addition, 10 new football goals and ball catching nets were purchased.

“I think it will be a great help, since it doesn’t matter what quality the children train on, how the ball bounces or how smooth the entire surface is. The worn-out track did not fully serve the maximum utilisation of the training in the past,” Balázs Makray said. All of this was realised following an open public procurement procedure, GLOBÁL SPORT Service Provider Limited Liability Company was announced as the winning bidder as the bidder with the best price-value ratio. The investment was financed partly from TAO funds (70%) and partly from self-resources (30%). The self-financing was provided by the DVSC Football Academy Nonprofit Ltd. in the form of a sub-grant. The gross cost of the investment was HUF 188 million.

“Very good professionals, excellent infrastructure and excellent players provide the triple unity that is needed for successful football in Debrecen, but of course there are many other minor conditions, including, for example, that the academy, which was handed over in 2013, undergoes improvements and renovations at certain intervals it must pass,“ Mayor László Papp pointed out.

History of DVSC Football Academy

The success of DVSC in 2009, reaching the main table of the Champions League and a year later the group stage of the Europa League created the basis for starting a complex football development umbrella program in Debrecen,  taking into account the Hungarian government’s program and work on creating laws. The program specifically included the broadening of the mass base of local football, the development of the infrastructure, the rethinking of public relations, the launch of amateur and grassroots football programs, the development of the complex IT and human infrastructure system, through all this, ultimately, the advancement of elite football. Part of the program was putting the educational and research opportunities of higher education at the service of football development, for which there was a good opportunity in Debrecen.

The University of Debrecen appeared as a strategic partner in the implementation of the program, for which it provided space for the academy’s infrastructural investment. The Debrecen Football Academy Nonprofit Ltd. (DLA) was established in 2010. It has three owners: DVSC Football Organizer PLC, Debrecen County Municipality and the University of Debrecen.

The foundation stone of the nearly two thousand square metre facility was laid in mid-March 2012, and then more than a year later, on the 27th of April 2013, it was handed over in a ceremonial setting with the participation of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. The total cost of the investment was HUF 1.4 billion, of which the city undertook HUF 300 million, DVSC Football Organizer PLC HUF 150 million, and the remaining amount was covered by corporate tax donations. On the 29th of March 2019, the indoor artificial grass field was handed over, which allows the teams to prepare properly even in winter. About 250 talents are currently being trained at the Academy, who, thanks to the network of partner associations and observers, represent not only the area around Debrecen, but almost the entire country, and even those beyond the border.
