The details were presented at a press conference on the 14th of August 2024 by the municipal representative of the district, Zoltán Piros.
Zoltán Piros began by saying that Vargakert is a very complex neighbourhood, which has recently been chosen by many families with young children. He had therefore encountered many requests from residents that the playground on the adjacent plot needed renovation. He added that this was not possible, as it was a privately owned site, but a suitable municipally owned site had been found, where the construction of a new playground began during the summer, which was completed in the past few days, and positive feedback from many families had already been received.
“After the necessary preparation and landscaping works, a modern playground with four playground equipment was created on the previously unused area. Benches and litter bins have been installed to increase the comfort of the families using the playground, and the vegetation has been cared for and managed,” the municipal representative pointed out.
The development cost a gross amount of HUF 15 million and was financed by the municipality from its own resources. During the autumn, the landscaping of the area will be continued and new benches and litter bins will be installed.
Zoltán Piros said that since 2019, the energetic modernisation of the Kindergarten on Közép Street had been carried out in the district, and a new nursery school was built on Zelemér Street a few months before.
The municipal representative emphasised “the city government’s goal is to continuously improve the quality of life for the people of Debrecen through a complex urban development strategy, and the development of playgrounds has been a priority in the development policy of recent years. In the framework of the Green City Programme, 9 new playgrounds have been built, 25 playgrounds have been renovated, 146 new playground equipment has been installed and 141 playground equipment has been refurbished”.
