Yesterday, the Hajdú-Bihar County Government Office accepted the application for the modification of the single environmental use permit submitted by CATL on the 18th of June 2024.
As mayor, László Papp had previously informed the public on his Facebook page “CATL is reducing the emissions of the solvent NMP to a minimum level. The maximum emissions of the first of the three point sources have been reduced from 150 mg/m3 to 2 mg/m3, while the maximum emissions of the second point source have been reduced from 35 mgC/Nm3 to 1.21 mgC/Nm3, while the maximum emissions of the third point source remain unchanged at 1 mg/m3”.
The Municipality has been in continuous consultation with CATL representatives over the past year in order to achieve positive changes in all the issues that have been of major concern to the community of Debrecen.
The Municipality of Debrecen welcomes the decision of the Government Office and the CATL’s undertaking. We see the company’s efforts to use safe and more environmentally friendly technologies in their manufacturing operations, even compared to European Union standards, as a vindication of their commitment.
For the Municipality, objective information is the main aspect in all such cases. Success is not about chasing away investors, but about creating long-term, environmentally responsible jobs. We believe it is important to listen to and understand the concerns of the people of Debrecen and to find a long-term solution to these concerns in cooperation with investors. Yesterday’s decision by the Government Office is a good example of this. Only in this way will Debrecen become one of the most important European centres for secure green energy storage.
