Kodály Philharmonia will not leave Debrecen without music this year either, the 2024/25 season started on Tuesday, on World Music Day, on the 1st of October with a joint concert of young Debrecen talents.
The year-long concert series will start on the 8th of October, with a birthday celebration for 75-year-old János Vajda. The Kossuth Prize-winning composer donated his entire oeuvre to the Debrecen Reformed College. Debrecen’s Chief Music Director Dániel Somogyi-Tóth emphasised in relation to the Kodály Philharmonic that maintaining classical values is a big responsibility.
“Although the season is not over yet, my colleagues have already sold many more season tickets than last year. This is an important feedback for us that classical music is attracting more and more people, this is also evident from the numbers. This gives a lot of strength to each of my colleagues, every single concert is full and thank God we are used to this,” the Chief Music Director said.
“Thanks to the Philharmonic Orchestra, which opened its 101st season this year, classical music already has a historical presence in the city and is an important part of our cultural history, “ Deputy Mayor István Puskás added.
“I am sure that not only classical music fans, but all music lovers will find a concert worth going to,” the Deputy Mayor said.
The season will feature well-known works by a number of composers, including Puccini’s heroines, Beethoven’s Symphony No IX and Bach’s piano concertos.
