In honour of the 68th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution and War of Independence and the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of the Hungarian Republic, the Municipality of Debrecen will organise a commemoration and wreath-laying ceremony on Wednesday, 23 October 2024.
The programme is as follows:
8.30 a.m.: Hoisting of the National Flag in military salute (Location: Kossuth Square)
9.00 a.m.: Wreath laying ceremony at the memorial plaque of the victims of the ÁVH volley fire (Location: 8 Kossuth Street)
10.00 a.m.: Commemoration and wreath-laying ceremony; Ceremonial speech by Mayor László Papp (Location: at the 1956 Memorial in front of the University Church)
The program is titled, “Because we have lived through things for which there is no word today…” – Kata Györgyi, Petra Molnár, Zalán Bakota, Zsigmond Lakó and Béla Pintér, singer-composer
5.30 p.m.: Lowering of the National Flag with a military salute (Location: Kossuth Square)
6.00 p.m.: Candle-lighting ceremony at the 1956 memorial on Kossuth Street (Location: 10 Kossuth Street)
