The details were presented at a press conference by Edina Szilágyi, the municipality’s representative, on October 28th, 2024.
Edina Szilágyi said that Dessewffy Street is part of the broader downtown area, which has not had asphalt paving for years. Residents have been rightly asking for solid asphalt paving. In the past, they had problems with traffic in the street in rainy weather, and drainage and parking were not of the quality required by a city like Debrecen, which is developing at such a pace.
She said it was a pleasure to include this section in this year’s road works. She stressed that the contractor had done a great job, which the residents confirmed. Regarding the project’s technical content, she explained that the work started at the end of July and was carried out in two phases.
In Phase I, the section between Dembinszky Street and Dobó Street was paved with a 78-metre-long and 5.5-metre-wide hard surface. In Phase II, the section between Dembinszky and Old Baptistry Streets and the connecting roads in front of the condominiums were paved with asphalt for 279 metres. The works included upgrading street lighting, renovating existing pavement sections, and draining rainwater from the road. The municipality financed the project to the tune of HUF 95 million gross.
Several streets in the district have been renewed in recent years. Since 2021, Keresszegi Street, Székely Street, Kinizsi Street, Virág Street, Apafi Road, and Dugovics Titusz Street have been renovated. Similar road reconstruction works are planned for the district, including a new section of Keresszegi Street and Bálint pap Street. Still, a strong emphasis will also be put on pavement construction and reconstruction.
