More than 700 obsolete luminaires have been replaced in the streets of Debrecen in the last 2 months. The intelligent LED luminaires are energy efficient and also improve traffic safety. The municipality has replaced more than 4600 lamps in the city.

In Debrecen, as part of the Green Codex, the replacement of these with new, environmentally friendly, energy-saving LED luminaires started last year. The sixth phase of the upgrade was completed on Wednesday.

“733 outdated, obsolete luminaires have been replaced with smart, energy-saving, controllable LED luminaires that meet today’s needs, saving 40 kilowatts of power,” municipal representative István Bognár said.

Intelligent, energy-efficient street lights provide better lighting, making traffic safer and reducing reducing the environmental impact.

The newly installed lights will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 4 tonnes.

The municipality has so far replaced more than 4,600 LED lamps in the city, saving around 1.5 million kilowatts of energy. This is equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 600 average family homes.
