This year, donors can support more than 1,300 children, but the foundation will also help another three thousand young people with gifts packed in shoeboxes, and elderly people and large families living in deprivation with durable food packages.

The Hungarian Reformed Charity Service (In Hungarian: Magyar Református Szeretetszolgálat, abbreviated as MRSZ) launches its Advent fundraising programmes at the beginning of November, so that the foundation can support at least eight thousand children living in difficult circumstances, families with several children and elderly, pensioners in need across the Carpathian Basin as Christmas approaches, the statement read.

This year’s fundraising activities include the Christmas Dream programme, which was launched five years ago and has already helped nearly 9,000 children to make their wishes come true with the help of donors.

The idea is that donors can learn about the specific wishes of the children they support, which the Foundation’s staff have collected in secret, through playful sessions or with the involvement of parents.

The donors can fulfil the requests posted on the online platform in two ways: either they buy the gift and send it to the Hungarian Reformed Charity Service’s donation points in Budapest or Debrecen, or they transfer the price of the toy to the charity, and the Foundation’s staff will use the money to buy the Christmas wishes.

The special feature of the programme is that the joy of giving presents can remain in the family community at Christmas, as the gifts received are not given to the children but to their parents by the MRSZ staff.

According to the information, after looking through the 1,358 Christmas wishes posted this year, most children asked for clothes or winter boots, but more than a hundred young people wanted toiletries that their parents could not afford to buy for them.

In addition to basic necessities, many asked for youth novels, board games or sports equipment. A list of children’s wishes is now available on this website, and wishes can be fulfilled until the 30th of  November by buying gifts or donating the amount.

“In parallel with the Christmas Dream programme, the Hungarian Reformed Charity Service launched two other fundraising campaigns in preparation for the Advent period. Durable food in love boxes, as well as sweets, toys and children’s books for three thousand children in need in Hungary and abroad in shoeboxes under the name of “Nyilas Misi Package” will be collected and delivered to the needy before Christmas,” the statement reads.

The summary says that MRSZ’s Advent fundraising programmes can be supported not only with material donations, but also with financial donations by calling the 1358 donation line, via the online interface www.adomany.jobbadni.hu, and by bank transfer to the account number 10702019-85008898-51100005 (Announcement: advent),.
