After 2011, the team of LHSimulations has redesigned the so-called scenery of Debrecen Airport, so that the newest version of Microsoft Flight Simulator, the most popular flight simulator, can be used with pleasure.
“Microsoft Flight Simulator has tens of millions of users worldwide and LHSimulations is now an official Microsoft partner. Whereas previously you could download a complex model of Debrecen airport from their website, now you can do so from within the program,” spokesperson for LHSimulations Sándor Tar says.
Scenery in a flight simulator is a digital version of a landscape of a given extent, created according to reality, which can be installed as an add-on in the simulator. It can be a terrain or vegetation refinement (e.g. where there are agricultural areas, forests, residential areas) or a complete digitisation, where all the objects that are present in reality (buildings, signs, cars) are modelled.
The team worked on the new scenery for Debrecen airport for more than a year.
They were given permission by the airport operator to take photographs, even using a drone.
Whereas previously the modellers used the photos to create the 3D models from textures, this process has now been reversed, first the 3D models were created, then were dressed with the textures.
Sándor Tar said they now had new modelling and rendering technologies that not only give the colour and texture of a material but also its reflection, making the model very lifelike.
