On Tuesday evening, university students met with Mayor László Papp at the Kazánház for a DEViK Business Innovation Club (DEViK Üzleti Innovációs Klub) meeting to discuss the city’s development and economic opportunities.
The DEViK Business Innovation Club aims to help students and graduates in Debrecen become entrepreneurs and realise their innovative ideas. The Tuesday evening programme was well attended—some young people who were not born in Debrecen but who imagine their future here.
Mayor László Papp said that in the future, the city would like to support the organic development of existing capacities and focus on helping local SMEs. Wages are expected to grow above the national average.
He pointed out that Debrecen’s economy has more than tripled in 10 years, and the focus between 2014 and 2020 was on economic development. He said that the Debrecen 2030 programme focuses on urban development. In the future, Debrecen wants to support the organic growth of existing capacities and will also focus on helping local SMEs.
Asked how he sees Debrecen’s future, the mayor said there is still a lot to do and many challenges ahead. Still, thanks to the city’s strong economic growth, further developments are expected, and wages are expected to grow significantly above the national average. He said he believes that the services operating in Debrecen will benefit from rising wages and the wage competition that characterises the labour market and that the city’s economic opportunities and support possibilities will improve significantly.
At the event, the mayor discussed the Transport Museum and the relocation of the Hungarian Natural History Museum to Debrecen. László Papp also discussed the rental housing programme and ideas for tourism development.
