Two urban greening programmes were included in the Top 10 actions of the Green Codex. More and more companies are joining the community tree planting programme announced by the Future of Debrecen movement.

In the past years, 100 linden saplings were planted in the Tócóskert, in  Kishegyesi – István Road, thanks to the donation of the Hungarian Postal Service. With the help of Richter Gedeon  PLC., a grove of 68 ornamental cherry trees was planted in the park of Buda Isaiah – Vágóhíd Street. LIDL also joined in the urban tree planting with the donation of 100 ornamental cherry trees, which were placed in Cserepes Street and Wesselényi Street. The Szeretlek Debrecen Association donated a total of 45 ash, linden and ornamental cherry saplings, which will decorate the public spaces of Huszár Gál – Budai Nagy Antal Street. Adix-Trade Ltd. donated 15 silver linden and cherry tree saplings to the Debrecen Institute of Primary Care and Health Promotion (DAEFI). Nádudvari Élelemiszer Ltd. offered 5000 forestry seedlings to the Great Forest, the area of Nyírerdő PLC. Most recently, 150 ash saplings were planted in Józsa on Sillye Gábor Street in cooperation with Szinorg Universal PLC.

This time, thanks to CATL, 200 horticultural linden saplings were planted as part of the green corridor along Tócó stream.

CATL is paying particular attention to offsetting its carbon emissions locally, for example through tree planting. In addition, the company has set a target to achieve carbon neutrality not only in its manufacturing processes, but throughout the entire battery value chain by 2035, including through the use of green energy and shortening supply chains, according to their statement.

“CATL places sustainability at the forefront of its activities, both in its manufacturing operations and in its social engagement. Already 9 of our factories have been certified carbon neutral and in Germany alone we have planted 6,300 tree saplings in 2023, supporting local carbon neutrality goals.

Our commitment to a sustainable, green future and to Debrecen is demonstrated by the fact that we are contributing to the planting of 200 trees in cooperation with the Future of Debrecen movement and the City of Debrecen. I believe that this is just the beginning, as we care about a green future and Debrecen is important to us, so we will definitely continue to partner in similar greening projects in the future.”

Communications Manager of CATL Debrecen, Noémi Sidló said.

“CATL is one of the world’s leading companies in green innovation, with products and services that create opportunities for green energy storage, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions globally,” as written by CATL.

“CATL employs more than 20,000 people in research and development, and has more than 9,000 patents in force. The battery and energy storage equipment company is committed to sustainability, with 9 of its 12 factories already certified carbon neutral.  CATL is at the forefront of Industry 4.0, a world leader in battery energy storage and already 3 CATL factories have been selected by the World Economic Forum as members of the Global Lighthouse Network,” they stated.

The afforestation of industrial sites and their surroundings can protect the surrounding areas from significant dust pollution, and the trees planted have a positive evaporative effect on noise reduction and microclimate conditions. The choice of tree species for plantations is fundamentally influenced by the need to plant native trees with a relatively wide range of environmental tolerance and ecological requirements, which can adapt to changing micro- and macro-climatic conditions and increasingly extreme weather conditions.
