Bence Rétvári arrived in Debrecen in the context of the Fidesz-KDNP national consultation tour, and gave an interview to Debrecen Television.

The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of the Interior stressed that the government is also drawing attention to the importance of economic neutrality with the national consultation announced in October, as in their view this is the basic condition for economic growth.

The Deputy Minister said that Brussels sanctions would force Hungary into a trade cold war, which would mean economic isolation and prevent Chinese, South Korean and other large companies from entering the country. He stressed that the BYD in Szeged and the ongoing investments in Debrecen would create new jobs and higher wages, and increase the country’s tax revenues and economic performance.

“These investments are in the interest of Hungary. Obviously there are important criteria, environmental protection, labour protection and other rules that everyone has to comply with, but if they are complied with by a Western or an Eastern contractor, and if they bring an advantage to Hungary, then they should be allowed in,” Bence Rétvári said.

The Deputy Minister also said that Brussels had agreed dozens of sanctions packages with member states, and that Western countries were sending weapons to the Ukrainians, but the war had not ended. In addition, the economic cold war would make it impossible to maintain relations with Eastern countries, which is also not in Hungary’s interests.

“We are not waiting for instructions from Brussels, we are talking to the Hungarian people, asking them what they are voting for. Should we give up economic advantages for their two pretty eyes, or should we say that what is advantageous for us we should stick to?” he said.

The Deputy Minister said that sensible regulation is important, but over-regulation puts European countries at an economic competitive disadvantage, citing the closure of BASF’s plant in Germany and Volkswagen’s plans to close plants.

“There was a very strong Europe here 20-30 years ago, which was forward-looking, with innovations, patents and factories, but the Brussels bureaucracy turned it into a shrinking Europe that lags behind the rest of the world,” the Deputy Minister explained.

It was also mentioned that Péter Magyar will also go on a tour of the country, and the Tisza Party will launch a social dialogue called the Voice of Magyars. The president of the party said that Viktor Orbán promised a fantastic year for 2025, yet poverty is spreading the most in Hungary.

Bence Rétvári reacted in such a way that when there was no influence from outside, be it the epidemic or the war,  the Hungarian economy was able to grow very strongly, the income of the Hungarian people increased, and the number of those able to work increased by one million. This was broken by the war. According to the Deputy Minister, the election of Donald Trump as American president is therefore very important, “because he can bring peace, and peace can bring the normalization of economic relations, which can bring Hungarian economic growth again.”

According to the Deputy Minister, the Tisza Party is continuing what Momentum started, they would implement the requests of Brussels in everything, and they do not take into account the opinion of the Hungarian people.

He added that moreover, the audio recordings that are constantly being made public prove that no one in the Tisza Party trusts anyone, everyone eavesdrops on everyone.

Regarding the Fidesz-KDNP country tour, he said that this is important because they are looking for points of agreement with the Hungarian people. One of the most important of these is the rejection of illegal migration.

Regarding the reliability of the public opinion polls, the Deputy Minister spoke about the fact that in the USA it was also measured that there would be a close result and that Kamala Harris would win, and that they also reported the advantage of the opposition in 2022, but still the Fidesz-KDNP got two thirds.

“Those who did this to Péter Márki-Zay in 2021 will do it to Péter Magyar now,” he declared.
