The three-performance series will be opened by the Orfeo Orchestra and Purcell Choir in December, where works by Bach and Stölzel will help prepare for Christmas. In addition to the musical presentation of the festive preparations, this program is also interesting because although Bach greatly appreciated Stölzel’s works, he is now considered an almost completely unknown composer, so it may hold surprises even for those familiar with classical music.
In the new year, the National Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by György Vashegyi, will play well-known pieces by Mozart, Massenet and Schönberg. The works performed at the concert are particularly emotional and captivating, and are deservedly loved by the audience even many years after they were written. To close the season, Concerto Budapest will perform within the walls of the Reformed University Church of Debrecen, where they will hear the piano playing of Mihály Berecz, conducted by András Keller.
At this concert, even the two often gloomy romantics, Brahms and Tchaikovsky, will provide optimistic and inspiring music.
According to Szabolcs Szamosi, Managing Director of the Philharmonia Hungary, it is a great pleasure for the Philharmonia to meet the audience in such an important city, and it is especially fortunate that this programme is not covered in the Philharmonia’s other concerts.
The first performance will take place on the 5th of December, for which both the organisers and the performers are already hard at work.
