This year’s Christmas campaign of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service and Spar Hungary started with the sale of donation cards, during which, between the 1st and the 17th of December, customers can support the compilation of food packages with the price of donation cards available in the Spar online shop. Customers can also help those in need by purchasing non-perishable food in designated stores.

“The initiative can be supported with a single package of food, or even the lowest value donation card, as in previous years,” the organisers said in their statement on Monday.

The “Giving is Joy!” campaign started with the sale of donation cards on Sunday. Until the 17th of December, donors can purchase these in 88 designated Spar and 35 Interspar stores and the Spar online shop.

In the second phase of the collection, between the 12th and the 17th of December, volunteers of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service will personally receive donations from customers in designated stores, a list of which can be found on the initiative’s website.

During the campaign, non-perishable food purchased in stores can be directly handed over to volunteers of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service on designated days and in stores. The charity will use the proceeds from donation cards to purchase non-perishable food. The collected food is used to make gift packages in the organisation’s warehouses.

Approximately thirty thousand packages are made yearly and delivered to those in need throughout the country before Christmas. During the campaign, three thousand volunteers will help receive tens of thousands of donations in more than 150 Spar and Interspar stores, courtesy of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service.
