The nursery of the Reformed Parish on Füredi Road was inaugurated on Thursday afternoon.

This is the third day of nursery handover in the city this week. In January, another Reformed nursery will open its doors to children.

The Debrecen-Füredi Street Reformed Parish has received a non-refundable grant of nearly HUF 400 million to develop nursery education. The 260-square-metre building and its playground are next to the Reformed Church on Füredi Road.

“The nursery will operate under the church’s sponsorship, and therefore, our primary goal is to convey the gospel, the Christian message, to this age group as much as possible through short prayers and biblical stories,” Pastor Áron Pótor said.

Currently, 2,900 children attend parish-run kindergartens and schools in Debrecen. Károly Fekete, bishop of the Reformed Diocese of Tiszántúl, said at the opening that the people working here provide added value with their faith, ensuring appropriate spiritual education.

“It is an opportunity to give children the care they need from a very young age, in a good place, in a loving environment and in a modern, 21st-century facility where children can enjoy playing,” Károly Fekete emphasised.

With the institution’s opening, four early childhood educators, a nanny, and a manager can begin working with the “Bárányka” and “Halacska” groups, where 28 children are expected to arrive.

Mayor László Papp highlighted that the city has made significant progress in job opportunities. Concerning the possible challenges this entails, the town is not alone: the churches are helping development as partners. “It is a huge help and support for families raising small children that the city, the local government, and the churches have begun serious developments in this area. In a truly family-friendly city, we have also made great progress in nursery places, and I am thrilled that the youngest citizens of Debrecen will be able to grow up in excellent conditions in the coming years,” László Papp highlighted.

After Reverend Tamás Hadházi’s blessing, the new nursery, “Napfény,” was officially opened in a ceremonial setting in the playground.
