The institution started bilingual Hungarian-English education 20 years ago, and students and teachers celebrated this together.
Popular children’s fairy tales, American pop culture, and British football are just a few topics in the Lilla Téri Primary School students’ program today. The performances celebrated linguistic diversity and showed how the English language and culture fit into the children’s lives.
Bilingual education was launched at the institution 20 years ago, so students have five English lessons a week and study some subjects in English. In his welcoming speech at the gala, Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa spoke about how large international companies that have settled in the city reinforce the need for English language skills.
“English is essential in any workplace, so children need to speak it properly. If they learn it in primary school, it will be useful later in life,” he pointed out.
