Interventions in old-growth forests are carried out with the permission of the forestry and nature conservation authorities.
The work will cover an area of 1 hectare next to the Debrecen Public Cemetery. The logging will be extended to 2025 and is expected to be completed in mid-January. Tree stands reaching their biological cut-off age are heavily stressed by non-native and invasive tree species such as acacia, black walnut, green maple, and western wafer wood, which should be the main species to be removed during logging.
The native, healthy pedunculate oaks will not be affected by the specialists during the intervention. The afforestation in the area will be carried out by planting pedunculate oak acorns.
The Debrecen Forestry Department asks for the understanding and patience of forest walkers during the intervention.
