The Tax Department of the Mayor’s Office of the City of Debrecen has already started the delivery of the decisions on the change of the building tax rate in electronic form due to the amendment of the local tax decree on 1 January 2025.

The decision will be sent to their electronic storage for business entities and natural persons with electronic communication. In all other cases, taxpayers can receive the decision document by traditional mail and a check that can be used for payment. The sending of decisions by conventional mail is expected to begin in the second week of February.

The tax department draws attention to the fact that everyone can settle their tax liability after the decision becomes final with a transaction that qualifies as a bank card purchase on the E-Local Government Portal using the EFER system.

The tax department would like to remind the public and businesses with real estate ownership and property rights related to real estate in the municipality that the building tax rate payable on taxable buildings, which has been unchanged for 12 years, has changed as of January 1, 2025.

According to the decision of the general assembly, the new general tax rate is 1,250 HUF/m2, while in the case of vehicle storage facilities, it is 750 HUF/m2.

In Debrecen, apartments owned by private individuals and buildings and parts of buildings on the city’s outskirts, which the owners use for themselves and their families for living purposes, continue to be exempt.
