Debrecen’s decade-long ambition is to renew the Main Station, which meets with the utmost support from the citizens of Debrecen. The local government of Debrecen is open to any proposal and solution that ensures the renovation of the station, which is handling increasing traffic, with appropriate guarantees.
The planned investment cannot be implemented without the cooperation of the Hungarian State, as the entire area is state-owned and utilised. The tender announced by MÁV PLC. is in its initial phase, and the applications and utilization proposals received are being processed.
This procedure, which was transparently divided into milestones by the Ministry of Construction and Transport, is being attacked by opposition political organisations without knowing any specifics or facts. Due to the lack of ideas regarding the future of Debrecen, they want to import the political debates of Budapest developments to Debrecen. It is irresponsible to attack any development without knowing the facts, and it is a specifically anti-Debrecen activity.
It is a mistake to hinder what serves the development of the city. We find it unacceptable that they want to boycott the renewal of the most criticised part of the city without any substantive information!
The Municipality of Debrecen, on the other hand, is looking after the interests of the citizens of the city by supporting the renewal of the Main Railway Station. Accordingly, we are working with the Ministry of Construction and Transport to familiarise ourselves with the tenders received and to provide the people of Debrecen with accurate information on the details.
It is in our common interest that the Main Railway Station and its surroundings should be renewed in a worthy manner, so that it can play the role of a modern gateway to the city that tens of thousands of people from Debrecen, the agglomeration and tourists expect from our city.
