The organisation, which has been operating since 1983, plays an important role in the protection and development of the city’s natural and built assets.
One of Debrecen’s oldest civil organisations held its meeting this year in the Régi Vigadó building to discuss plans for 2025. The Podmaniczky Award-winning association aims to help make Debrecen a livable city in the long term. It strives to preserve Debrecen’s natural and built heritage, as well as its cultural traditions, while supporting the city’s continuous development.
At the opening meeting, Deputy Mayor István Puskás emphasised that the Debrecen City Protection and Development Association comes up with ideas, suggestions, and advice year after year, without which Debrecen would not be able to preserve its values so effectively.
“The result of this shared thinking is the Cívis House of the Year Award or the municipal fund for the renovation of built heritage. In order to put these awards and these funds in the best possible place, and thus preserve the real values of the city, collective thinking and joint work are essential,” István Puskás said.
