On May 10, 2025, the Deutsche Liga small-sided football tournament took place at the BeStrong sports centre.
- The teams of Debrecen companies with German ties played ten-minute round-robin matches, which is a healthy form of corporate networking.
- The main sponsor of the event was Schaeffler Debrecen, with additional sponsorship provided by Harro Höfliger, Diehl Aviation Hungary and the Debrecen city government.
- The organiser was the Debrecen German Cultural Forum.
Football is an important part of German and Hungarian culture. With its team play and the dignity of competition, football sets a good example for the world of work. The company football league is also a meeting of Hungarian, German and English: the fans cheered on the players on the pitch in all three languages. Teams: BMW Group Debrecen, British Telecommunications, Bürkle Hungary Ltd., Deutsche Telekom IT Solutions, Diehl Aviation Hungary Ltd., Harro Höfliger, NI-Emerson, Schaeffler Debrecen, Schaeffler Motion Technologies Debrecen, Transcosmos Hungary Ltd.
The Deutsche Liga has joined the campaign “Move TOGETHER Debrecen! – 10 days of movement” (https://sporteseletmod.hu/node/145). As is known, with the coordination of the Hungarian Sports and Lifestyle Development Cluster and the Debrecen Sports Centre, the city will promote a healthy lifestyle within the framework of a large-scale collaboration between May 1 and May 10, 2025 (https://sporteseletmod.hu/index.php/mozdulj-egyutt-debrecen)
“The Deutsche Liga is an important element of the #GermanPlusDebrecen campaign. We have been making Hungarian employees aware of the advantage of knowing the German language for years. In the 21st century workplace, those who communicate in an additional foreign language in addition to English are successful, and in Debrecen, this is German. Today, around 50 German-owned companies operate in the “cívis” city, and this German economic community provides a livelihood for thousands of families in the region. This year, we expanded the football league into a family day so that children could also participate in the meeting of languages. During the game, they could experience the mixing of Hungarian, German and English words, which makes the culture of our city increasingly colorful,” the host of the event and the president of the Debrecen German Cultural Forum Andrea Horváth said.
The “Special Academy” (Különleges Akadémia in Hungarian) was invited to the tournament this year as well, as equal opportunities and community involvement are valued values in German corporate culture (https://akademia.dvsc.hu/kulonleges-akademia/).
The championship was won by the Schaeffler Debrecen team. Diehl Aviation Hungary Ltd. came in second place, and Deutsche Telekom IT Solutions came in third.
Top scorer: Balázs Tóth – Deutsche Telekom IT Solutions.
Best goalkeepers: Máté Dremák – NI-Emerson, Zoltán Kocsis – Debrecen Schaeffler, József László – Deutsche Telekom IT Solutions.
