School is starting. On Sunday morning, the opening ceremony of the school year was held at the Epreskerti Primary School. The event was organised as a tradition and it is planned to open the school year together in different institutions every September. At the ceremony, Mayor László Papp said that the knowledge gained at school would shape the future of Debrecen and the nation as a whole.

In September, more than 1,300 first-year pupils will start primary school and 980 will start secondary school at the Debrecen School District Centre. The director of the School District, László Türk said Debrecen is a school town and a town of teachers, where they work for the children.

“I believe that the city holds the child’s hand, accompanies him/her to kindergarten, accompanies him/her through the primary school years, and then they can choose here, locally, from the Debrecen School District Centre or the Debrecen Vocational Training Center and other supporting institutions” László Türk emphasised.

László Papp encouraged the children to be curious, always dare to ask questions, ask for help, make suggestions, express their opinions and be proud to be students of Debrecen.

According to the Mayor, the development of Debrecen is inseparable from the development of education, because without knowledge there is no progress and development will not be effective.

“That is why education, the nurturing of children, has become the foundation on which we must build. The knowledge that pupils acquire at school shapes not only their own lives, but also the future of our city and our nation as a whole,” László Papp stressed.

“If there is one thing that makes school absolutely essential,  it is that we cannot manage life without knowledge, “  László Pósán pointed out.

“Human creativity has never been so important as it is today. We can talk a lot about the different challenges of digitalisation, but one thing is for sure, this is also made by people, and human ability and knowledge will always be more than any machine, any computer,” László Pósán highlighted.

At the Epreskert Primary School, true to tradition, 64 first year students received their school’s badges. At the town ceremony, institution management assignments were also handed over.
