A special pool will also be built in the Latinovits Hall of the Csokonai Forum, where the theatre’s latest production will be presented on Thursday.
Lewis Caroll’s Alice in Wonderland has been adapted for the Debrecen actors by Csaba Mikó and Júlia Sándor.
“This adaptation, written by Csaba Mikó and Juli Sándor, was specially commissioned by the Csokonai National Theatre, and has never been performed anywhere else. It was written specifically for the actors, the characters were assigned by the authors observing the actors who can do the role, who can transform. I am very pleased with them,” the director of the production Csilla Bereczki said.
The director wants the show to be seen by as many generations as possible, from the age of 12 upwards, because the problems in the play are not exclusive to adolescents, but to people in general. It is very important for this kind of performance that several generations experience the story together, because it is much easier for them to put themselves in each other’s shoes if they see it together and process it together.
This layering will be reflected visually. For example, there is a mirror of water in the performance, a pool, which is actually a psychic space. Alice enters here, her own psychic space, where she “looks into herself”, as we all do, and this is how we present it on stage,” director Csilla Bereczki says.
The premiere of Alice in Wonderland will take place on Thursday the 7th of March at 2.00 p.m. in the Latinovits Zoltán Hall of the Csokonai Forum. The main character will be played by Eszter Balázs-Bécsi, alongside Zsuzsa Oláh, Artúr Vranyecz, Hella Tolnai, János Mercs, Bencie Gelányi, Norbert Nagy and Márk Komlódy.
