Two days of career guidance are helping young people make the right choices at the Nagyerdei Stadium.
For the fourth time, the Debrecen Vocational Training Centre is organising a career guidance exhibition called “Hello Profession! Road to the Future”, featuring over ninety companies, educational institutions, and organisations with links to Debrecen.
Thousands of primary school pupils and their parents visited the Nagyerdei Stadium to learn about the career and training opportunities offered by companies, educational institutions and organisations in the area. Some came to the event with a definite idea.
“I’m still in eighth grade at Monostorpályi Elementary School. I’m interested in Pallagi Agricultural Technical School because we also work with animals at home,” Alexa Oláh said.
This time, one of the leading partners of the two-day career orientation event is the Hajdú-Bihar County Police Headquarters, which wants to promote the police profession with spectacular demonstrations and interactive programmes. A panel discussion was also organized, with the participation of Olympic pentathlon champion and official police lieutenant Michelle Gulyás.
“Representatives from all our services will be present to give young people an insight into the day-to-day work of the police. For example, our technical criminal investigation department appeared, we held a dog and horse show, and the Cívis Public Area Support Subdivision staff gave a spectacular, dynamic demonstration,” Head of the Human Administration Service Tamás Bara listed.
Deputy State Secretary for Vocational Education and Training Gáborné Pölöskei pointed out that the transformation of vocational education and training in the country started four years ago. The decision has been a success, as evidenced by many more people now enrolling in technical colleges than in grammar schools.
“We need to look at what the technical schools have to offer and what kind of network they have with universities, and I can only recommend them to everyone,” she said.
Several companies that have settled in the city in recent years also participate in the career guidance days, as Mayor László Papp already mentioned.
“Many of the world’s most influential companies are based here, and when they are here, they give jobs to young people who may not know what they will do when they finish their studies,” he added.
The organizer, the Debrecen Vocational Training Centre, is presenting eleven institutions and eighty professions in twenty sectors. Chancellor Zsolt Tirpák said, “Vocational education and training is an opportunity for young people that offers a real career path. In this respect, Debrecen is the city of the future.”
“In the past period, an economic environment and a parallel labour market environment have been created in the city, a real treasure trove. In this treasure trove, everyone must find their treasures, a happy vision of the future,” he stressed.
The two-day event features ninety exhibitors.
