Debrecen International Airport closes for at least a week due to defect on its runway

The Debrecen International Airport Ltd. announced that the problem was caused by the heat.

“On Thursday, during the runway inspection carried out at 6 p.m. the airport’s colleagues noticed a defect on its surface due to the persistently high temperature. As a result of which, keeping in mind the highest level of flight safety regulations, the Debrecen International Airport was temporarily closed until the defect was rectified, “ Operator of Debrecen International Airport Ltd. informed in its statement.

It will take at least a week to correct the defect, depending on weather conditions.

Debrecen International Airport has informed all partner airlines operating scheduled and charter flights about the temporary closure in order to make their decisions regarding the rescheduling of flights and to inform passengers  as soon as possible.

Passengers departing from and arriving in Debrecen are kindly requested to check with the airlines or travel agents for information about their flights.

The experts have immediately started to rectify the problem and  as they say  they will do their best to fix it as soon as possible and to welcome passengers again.

Debrecen International Airport informed us that the flight from Eindhoven to Debrecen had landed in Budapest, and according to a passenger’s report the flight from Istanbul to Debrecen had also been diverted to the capital.
