Eight hours, twelve venues, more than a hundred programmes, this year the Night of Museums in Debrecen is a collaboration of exhibition venues. On Saturday, from 4.00 p.m to midnight, the exhibitions of museums and churches will be open to all. The aim of the interactive programmes is to showcase the value of the exhibitions through experiences.
“The latest exhibition at MODEM, 100 years of nature, opened on Friday. This exhibition will also feature special guided tours during the Night of Museums. MODEM is bidding farewell to its monochrome exhibition in a special way, but there will also be children’s activities and music on the shortest night of the year. There will be subjective guided tours with actors, for example Artúr Vranyecz and Csaba Debreceni will be with us,” MODEM’s Managing Director Katalin Vízi said.
“On Saturday, at the House of Literature, anyone can make a caricature that could have appeared in Jókai’s former magazine, “Comet” (Üstökös). A LEGO-Jókai figure will also be created in preparation for the 200th anniversary of the “lord of writers’ birth. In every unit of the Déri Museum, we want to show through experiences what is new and what is already well-known. We definitely want to show what is already in the Déri Museum. We want to showcase the cultural heritage that people know and don’t know. We have an exhibition about the bombing of 1944, and we have special objects from 1849,” we could hear the Deputy Scientific Director of the Déri Museum Lajos Lakner.
The Night of the Museums program was joined this year by all actors who have exhibition spaces, so visitors can visit a total of 12 locations in the city centre, where they can choose from more than a hundred programs.
“A special feature of Museum Night is that it brings together institutions from a wide range of backgrounds for one day and together, listening to each other and to each other’s programmes, they will open up their own treasures and bring a truly memorable summer night for all the people of Debrecen and all visitors,” Deputy Mayor István Puskás said.
Since the Night of the Museums falls on the time of the football European Championship, football will appear everywhere in one form or another.
For example, there will be a goal shooting competition in front of the Déri Museum, and in the House of Literature, the button football teams will be made up of writers and poets.
