The Municipality of Debrecen is committed to sustainability programmes. Therefore, it has joined the “Perlátor” programme to promote the conscious use of water.

“The Municipality of Debrecen is committed to sustainability programmes. To promote the conscious use of water, the municipality has joined the Aerator programme, which fits in well with the initiatives previously launched by the municipality, such as the distribution of leaf bags, the distribution of used oil collection containers, the distribution of water collection containers and one of the largest energy-saving residential programmes in Debrecen, the LED replacement programme,” the Municipality said.

The free, sustainable, energy- and cost-efficient programme is open to users based in Debrecen between the 13th  and the  20th of  November; registration can be submitted online at https://perlator.debrecen.hu.

Mayor of Debrecen László Papp said, “Sustainability and environmental aspects are a priority in the development of Debrecen, which is why they have previously launched programmes for the population, such as the LED replacement programme or the distribution of rainwater collectors”.

“Today, a water-related initiative started again, in which Debrecen residents can get an aerator for free. This device can be installed on taps to ensure less water flows from the tap and achieve the same goal. 7,500  faucet aerator packages are distributed to the public. Our primary goal is to make the city’s water balance and management more sustainable and environmentally conscious,” László Papp explained.

To register the water bill issued by Debreceni Vízmű PLC. After registration, the notification sent to the specified email address will contain the information (location and time) of receiving the aerator package. The package includes a percolator key, installation instructions, two flow regulators, an aerator and a rubber ring that can be mounted on three taps.

According to the Aerator programme’s central website, the devices can reduce water consumption by up to 40 percent.

In addition, depending on the technology used to produce hot water, electricity or gas bills will be reduced.

A percolator is a type of jet regulator that uses the kinetic energy of the water flowing out of the faucet nozzles at high speeds to suck in air from the surrounding area through specially designed passages and enrich the outflowing water jet with air beads (Perl) mixed into the water, thus reducing the amount of water flowing through the faucet in a minute and water consumption.

The flow regulator can be installed between the shower spout of the faucet and the shower hose. Unlike the aerator, it does not add air to the water but only limits the flow rate. The interaction between the seat and the O-ring determines the flow rate. When water flows through the regulator at higher or lower pressures, the shape of the O-ring changes. The higher the flow pressure, the more the shape of the O-ring changes. As the pressure decreases, the O-ring gradually regains its original shape, creating larger spaces for the water. In this interaction, the O-ring and the seating surface adapt to the changing pressure conditions as long as a constant flow rate within a given tolerance is ensured.
