Originating in Bavaria, Oktoberfest, which is now a worldwide phenomenon, can also find a foothold in the Cívis city.
The great Bavarian beer festival opened its doors in Debrecen on the evening of the 3rd of October. The initiative aims to allow beer lovers to experience the authentic Bavarian spirit with the German-speaking actors of the city’s economic, educational, and cultural life, even literally “arm in arm.”.
The three-day festival featured a wide selection of quality Bavarian beers, food specialities, traditional music and games, and a beer coupon at the entrance for those arriving in full Bavarian costume.
As the festival’s opening event, Mayor László Papp and Schedl Group CEO Vinzenz Grassl tapped the beer keg in Bavarian tradition.
László Papp put it that way: “Debrecen’s economy has changed a lot in recent times, and German companies are doing a lot to strengthen the city’s economy, which is why he considers it important that German-Hungarian relations should grow not only in the economic but also in the cultural and entertainment fields.”
“The programme will be a whole house throughout the event, which shows that the people of Debrecen are happy with the programme and that Oktoberfest is expected to become a permanent feature of autumn in Debrecen,“ he said.
The managing director of Főnix Event Organiser Ltd., Zita Dobos, spoke about how they wanted to bring a little German sense of life to Debrecen and present a role of Bavarian culture, which together provides a point of connection for the people of Debrecen and the Germans living and working here.
The first act of the event was one of the country’s most popular Swabian Schraml bands, Szomorer Jungs. They create an unforgettable atmosphere every time they perform, which is no exception.
The first Oktoberfest Debrecen took place between the 3rd and 5th of October on Egyetem Square.
