Since 1995, the Municipal Mayors’ Rendezvous has been held every year, this year hosted by the town of Karcag. At the event, the Mayor of the Year, Deputy Mayor of the Year and Notary of the Year awards, founded by the organiser, Sphere Europe, will be presented.
These awards are given to the city leaders who have best earned the appreciation of the citizens through their votes. The award is a linocut of Endre Szász. The Mayor of the Year award was given to Ádám Hernádi (Esztergom), the Deputy Mayor of the Year award to Szabolcs Szeles (Győr) and the Notary of the Year to Attila Bodnár (Badacsonytomaj).
Szféra Europa Ltd. has also launched a new award this year. With the 2019-2024 five-year municipal term coming to an end, they have created the Key to Successful Cities Award, which they have awarded to five cities they consider to be highly successful.
One of the cities to receive the award is Debrecen, besides Nyíregyháza, Kecskemét, Veszprém and Szeged.
The award was received by Deputy Mayor Ákos Balázs from Miklós Dukai, State Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration and Regional Development, and Tamás Oltványi, Managing Director of Szféra Europa Ltd.
Ákos Balázs wrote on his Facebook page that Debrecen received the award thanks to the successful economic development of the past 5 years, its environmental protection measures and the exemplary cooperation between the University of Debrecen and the city.
