Footballer Norbert Balogh donated developmental toys to the little residents of the Tégláskert Children’s Home in Debrecen on the 6th of December, 2024.
The Hungarian national football player, who is originally from Hajdúböszörmény and previously played for DVSC and still frequently visits Debrecen today, and who currently plays for DAC in Upper Hungary, approached the co-chair of the Debrecen Charity Board, Diána Széles, to donate primarily to children living in state care.
Diána Széles said, “An important element of the Debrecen Charity Board’s operation is to connect well-meaning donors with those working in the social sphere and with those operating social institutions. That is why they chose the Tégláskert Children’s Home as the venue for the donation, where they deal with children who come from challenging, even tragic, life situations.” According to Diána Széles, they asked in advance what this children’s home would need most, and the choice was made for developmental toys that take into account the age characteristics of the children, which they can play with together and which they can never have enough of. The gifts were handed to the children and the institution’s representatives in front of the home building.
As Norbert Balogh said, it is a great joy for him to help these children and see them happy. He wanted to surprise them on Santa Claus Day, and Diána Széles enabled him to do so. He says anyone who knows him knows he likes to give more than receive. He believes that God helped him get out of his difficult situation and has supported him throughout his career so that he can help children who, like him, are also starting their lives amidst difficulties.
This was not Norbert Balogh’s first, nor will it be his last, selfless act of charity, and he hopes to continue helping those in need in the future as well.
