Public transport will become more convenient for the people of Debrecen, Mayor of Debrecen László Papp highlighted, who pointed out the importance of the DKV real-time tracking app.
DKV Zrt. will launch 61 new routes from the 20th of November, as well as a more compact bus and tram timetable with changes to the departure times of several lines. László Papp said at the press event that he was glad to hear that after last year’s austerity measures, a decision was made to restore the previous passenger capacity in order to meet the transport needs of the residents of Debrecen.
The mayor stressed that there were already service extensions and corrections in May, July and September, and in November they will continue to improve transport in the city by increasing service frequencies.
On tram lines 1 and 2, the following times will be much shorter, from 15 to 12 minutes between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. and between 7 and 10 p.m., and from 10 to 8 minutes between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.. Between 17 and 19 hours, the tracking time will be 10 minutes instead of 12 minutes, the mayor said. He added that the bus services will be adjusted based on public requests and comments.
László Papp also pointed out that DKV’s services can now be tracked in real-time with an app available on every smartphone, which further increases passenger comfort.
Szabolcs Tóth pointed out that all adjustments were based on a survey of public needs. The CEO of DKV Zrt. underlined: since last January, passenger counting equipment has been used to measure passenger traffic on individual lines, routes and stops. As far as tram services are concerned, there will be a compression on both lines. Trams currently run every 4-6 minutes during peak periods, and we cannot reduce their tracking times any further. In the case of bus services, we will modify the tracking time for the bus services with high passenger traffic, adding one extra turn, especially during peak periods.
This will affect service 10 due to morning congestion: two extra services will be added on school weekdays, and more changes to service 13, with extra services in the morning to better serve the Pallag area. A more regular timetable will be used for bus 15, and the current 30-minute headway for bus 19 will be reduced to 20 minutes between 6 and 8 am and between 1 and 5 p.m. For bus 22, the 20-minute journey time will be reduced to 15 minutes during the same period, and for bus 24.
“We have a lot of consultation with the industrial parks, with the companies there, there is significant passenger traffic, these areas are developing, and we have continuously improved the service to them in the last period,” he said, adding that the service in the Southern Economic Zone will be improved from 20 November, with the current 49 service running with a new 60 signal and a new service, the 61, which will connect Doberdó Street with the Southern Industrial Park.
The Airport 1 service will be extended with a one-hour connection time, making it easier to get to the airport.
