Toy cars, pony horses, picture books and board games were hidden in huge bags under the Christmas tree. The DVSC brought gifts for all the children at the Paediatric Haematology Oncology Unit of the Clinical Centre. According to the head of the department, such surprises can improve the youngsters’ well-being.
“It’s very important that we try to keep the children not only physically recovering, not only improving their well-being, but also their mood. Well, on the one hand, we ourselves, the patient care staff, are a great help in this,” Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Children with Leukaemia, Csongor Kiss said.
Donations from a growing number of donors each year contribute to this objective.
The DVSC football club is a permanent member of this community and has been supporting the young patients for a long time.
“It is part of DVSC’s philosophy to always give back to the local community, especially our fans and young people. For me, they are the real champions and not us. They are the winners of life,” President of DVSC Football Ltd. Ike Thierry Zaengel said.
Among the football team’s players, Brandon Domingues, Botond Vajda and Márk Szécsi also met the children in the Children’s Hematology and Oncology Department of the Clinical Centre.
“It’s not really about us, but about the children who are here, so if we can contribute even a little bit to their time spent here, or to their recovery with those gifts, or maybe by coming to them, then it’s worth it,” Márk Szécsi said.
The city also joined the initiative. On behalf of the municipality, Deputy Registrar, Csaba Danku delivered gift packages to the children in the ward.
“I know that there are children between 1 and 8 years old in the institution andI gave them suitable toys for girls and boys” the Deputy Registrar emphasised.
At any one time, 15 sick children are cared for in the ward. The surprises are intended to make their stay in hospital more pleasant.
