A classical concert titled “Musicians from the Old World” awaits the audience on the 24th of September at 7.00 p.m. with the following programme:
Mozart: Serenade in D major (Postactaur), K.320
S. Bach: Piano Concerto in G minor, BWV 1058
Bartók: Divertimento
Participants: Somogyi-Tóth Dániel – piano / Kodály Philharmonic
Conductor: Tibor Bényi
About the pieces played:
Mozart’s Serenade in D major, written in 1779, features a string quartet, flutes, piccolo, oboes, bassoon, horn, trumpet, post horn, and timpani. The Concertante and Rondeau movements contain soloistic passages for flutes, oboes, and bassoons.
Johann Sebastian Bach’s keyboard concertos are presumably arrangements of earlier works for other instruments, with the Concerto in G minor being his first attempt to write a complete harpsichord concerto.
Franz Schubert’s Divertimento for string orchestra, commissioned by Swiss conductor Paul Sacher, is a neo-classical work based around modal tonalities and modernist tonality. The piece is characterized by sharp dynamic contrasts, imitation, and polyphonic construction. The final movement, Allegro assai, evokes dark visions of loneliness and combines tradition with Bartók’s Eastern European roots.
