Who would have thought that of all Mozart’s bassoon concertos (because he supposedly composed five), only one remains to us?
The Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra’s chamber orchestra concert on 27 May in the University Church will include this work. Visitors to the concert will also be able to hear a true gem of the divertimento genre, the composer’s Serenade in D major, better known as the Serenata notturna. Mozart’s masterpieces will be joined by Schubert’s Symphony No 8 (B minor, the famous ‘Unfinished’ symphony, whose incompleteness is perhaps its endlessness.
The title of the evening is “Hymn to Infinity”. The soloist is József Vitányi, bassoonist of the Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra. The orchestra is conducted by their permanent conductor Tibor Bényi.
