CANCELLED -World Famous Organist’s Concert in Debrecen

2024 is Holocaust Memorial Year in Hungary. During the year, the Jewish Community of Debrecen organised several commemorations and events in this spirit. The highlight of the series of events will be a concert by world famous organist Xavér Varnus, and the Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra entitled "We remember and Remind" on the 25th of  November at 6.00 p.m. at the Csokonai National Theatre.  The event will feature violinist Gáspár Kelemen and conductor Dániel Somogyi-Tóth. Gospel Christmas in Debrecen – Benedict Gospel Choir (USA)

Like last year, the Gospel Christmas will be organised again on the 6th ofDecember at the Kölcsey Center. Debrecen will be the first stop of the European tour of the South Carolina Benedict Gospel Choir. The choir,  which comes with a completely new song list and performance style, is conducted by eight-time Stellar Award winner Jason Clayborn, but also features star soloists, including two-time Grammy Award winner Tasha Page-Lockhard. The Benedict Gospel Choir is guaranteed to provide new magic in addition to the evergreen gospel and Christmas hits. In the following period, they will perform in Switzerland and Italy, and they will also sing in front of Pope Francis in the Vatican. Tickets can be purchased via this link. Christmas Lights – StEFREM Advent concert

One of the best-known Hungarian acapella groups will be on stage this time with singer Sára Bolyki. Like the Férfikar, she is at home in a wide range of styles. The ensemble's Christmas Lights album, released last year, provides the basis for the programme, which includes Christmas and Advent songs from Hungary, Anglo-Saxon, Northern European and Carpathian Basin nations. Famous secular melodies will also be performed, including Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, Vivaldi's Four Seasons of Winter and Silent Night, all in their own arrangements. A special feature of the evening is that these songs have never been performed in this form before, with a female soloist. Sára Bolyki is a second generation acapella singer, daughter of the oldest member of the Bolyki Brothers and member of the Jazzation acapella group. She graduated with honours in folk singing from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, where she was invited to teach even before graduation. In addition to Jazzation, she also teaches at the undergraduate level and is an invited soloist with Hungarian and Balkan folk music groups.
