On the 18th of October, Debrecen Zoo will host a special event, where a magical multimedia exhibition and light show will open for the first time in a rural city, from 5:00 p.m. At the opening ceremony, Mayor László Papp will officially inaugurate the exhibition and the park's latest renewable energy investment, which will provide a quarter of the non-profit company's electricity consumption for the whole year, thus covering the entire renewable energy needs of the exhibition for half a year. Garden of Lights is a magical space with light installations and projections, transporting visitors to the world of Pinocchio. It's a great family attraction, combining fairy tales, technology, and creativity, creating unforgettable memories and connecting generations. As last year the audience can see a series of  Royal Ballet performances via live satellite replay screenings starting with Alice in Wonderland on the 20th of October. On the 27th of February, MCC Debrecen Educational Center will present a lecture in German on a current topic, titled "Political Turmoil in Germany - Who will be Germany's new Chancellor?" Description: With the fall of the three-party coalition government led by Olaf Scholz in November, Germany is facing a new political era: on the 23rd of February 2025, after 20 years, early Bundestag elections are being held in the country, which could be decisive for Europe. The parties in the coalition of the Social Democrats, Greens and Liberals have significantly lost popularity during Olaf Scholz's three-year term as chancellor. What led to the fall of the German government?  Which parties do German voters trust? Will there be a shift to the right in Germany, or is a new political force emerging that represents a different social and economic direction? The 3rd of March has been World Wildlife Day for more than a decade, a highlight of conservation that raises awareness to the diversity, invaluable value of wildlife, and the threatening dangers they posed and the urgent importance of protecting them.  On the 2rd of March, 1973 CITES, the Washington Convention regulating the international trade in endangered wild animals and plants, was adopted and in 2013 the UN General Assembly decided to declare this anniversary a significant day for nature conservation. On the occasion, between the 1st and the 3rd of March, Debrecen Zoo is awaiting visitors with interactive programmes and an exciting presentation of the life of the five continents. For the third time, the “Cívis Retro Computer Meeting” is waiting for interested parties at the Méliusz Central Library, organised by the Cívis Microclub. On 1 March, visitors can play all day long on a variety of retro computers and consoles (Commodore, Sega, Nintendo, Sony Playstation, etc.). “Enterprising” children and adults can compete in the Commodore 64 Wizard of Wor tournament.  In the afternoon, visitors can watch presentations and spectacular programmes, demos and animations on the projector. Animal lovers are welcome to join the 9th of March for a day of activities at the shelter, starting at 10.00 a.m., including a dog walk and a relaxing cat petting with coffee. At the flea market, visitors will have the chance to support the shelter’s rescues by purchasing a variety of souvenirs, and have fun with the “youngsters” in the puppy run. Anyone who is a returning guest might know that "Together for Animals" Animal Protection Association organises events along different themes, several times a year, so now they open the line with their first event in 2025.
