Magical Pinocchio LIghts Show at Debrecen Zoo

On the 18th of October, Debrecen Zoo will host a special event, where a magical multimedia exhibition and light show will open for the first time in a rural city, from 5:00 p.m. At the opening ceremony, Mayor László Papp will officially inaugurate the exhibition and the park's latest renewable energy investment, which will provide a quarter of the non-profit company's electricity consumption for the whole year, thus covering the entire renewable energy needs of the exhibition for half a year. Garden of Lights is a magical space with light installations and projections, transporting visitors to the world of Pinocchio. It's a great family attraction, combining fairy tales, technology, and creativity, creating unforgettable memories and connecting generations. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased at early bird prices via this link. The exhibition is open from the 18th of October,2024 to the 2nd of March, 2025. On Public Demand the Royal Opera House is returning to Apollo Cinema

As last year the audience can see a series of  Royal Ballet performances via live satellite replay screenings starting with Alice in Wonderland on the 20th of October. Search for Nests of Birds of Prey

In addition to the winter forest bird walk, the field programme of the Hortobágy National Park Directorate on the 25th of January will have the important aim of finding and registering nests of birds of prey, so the effectiveness will depend largely on the number of the group. The leafless, winter period is the best time to find and count nests and then check back in spring, and early summer to see what birds of prey are using them for breeding. Accurate mapping of nests of protected and/or highly protected birds of prey helps to ensure the success of conservation work and species protection activities. Visitors can also learn about the first nature reserve in the country and its wildlife. Participation is free of charge, but pre-registration is requested. Traditionally, on the last weekend in January birds will be the main attraction at Debrecen Zoo to which visitors are welcome on both days. Thermal Spa and Beer

Dance and Crafts Evening

On the 28th of January folk music and folk art lovers are awaited to dance and do handicrafts to live folk music, taking a little break from the rushing weekdays of winter grayness. Programmes of the Evening: 5:00 p.m. Folk Leather Crafting session with Tamás Éber,  making leather bags, using the techniques of lacing and embossing. The finished creations can be taken home. 11th Budapest International Documentary Film Festival

With the slogan  of “There's a film inside you" the 11th Budapest International Documentary Film Festival will be held between the 31st of January and the 2nd of February. In the last days of January, 11 cities around the country, including Debrecen, will screen the documentaries from around the world that won the most awards last year.  After the screenings, the films will be followed by a traditional discussion with renowned experts on the topics raised by the films, in which the public will be able to participate. In Debrecen, six festival films tell stories about us, who are the everyday heroes of our own lives, with our own everyday struggles to fulfil our everyday desires, in our own everyday families, in the grip of our ever-present everyday fears. The themes of the festival's sections are organised around these ideas. The Debrecen programme will examine current issues that concern everyone, such as love, war, the contrast between urbanisation and agrarianism, the psychology of elite sports, or the ecological and health effects of large-scale factories. Techo Day in Debrecen

On the 7th of February, Debrecen will host three exciting programmes for those who want to dig deeper into the relationship between man, machine, technology and art. Programmes: Conference: Human 2.0, The Aesthetics of Transhumanism Date: 7 February from 9.30 a.m. Location: MODEM The event will focus on the abstract and material aspects of transhumanism, with special emphasis on its aesthetic and cultural dimensions.
