Series of Programmes for Plant Lovers

Visitors can explore the world of succulent plants and herbariums, but can also taste bread enriched with leaf protein and microalgae, wafers and gummi beans. Every two years, the European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO) organises a Plant Theme Day on the 18th of  May. The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of plants and plant science for the present and the future. Several countries, including Hungary, have joined the “Fascination of Plants Day” appeal. The Faculty of Agriculture, Food Science and Environmental Management of the University of Debrecen organised a series of events from the 14th of May at which  interactive programmes, exhibitions and science lectures are awaiting the interested public. In the lobby of the agricultural campus, two exhibitions were opened,  one on herbaria and the other on succulent plants. The first is a selection of the valuable pressed herbarium of the DE MÉK Department of Applied Plant Biology. Israeli Play at Csokonai Theatre with English Subtitles

The play of Hanoch Levin (1943-1999), the most prominent figure in Israeli dramatic writing, excelled primarily in satirical cabaret, can be seen with English subtitles on the 23rd of May at Csokonai National Theatre Debrecen. About the play that was inflated into a musical farce by director Árpád Árkosi: Hanoch Levin (1943-1999), a prominent Israeli dramatic writer, excelled in satirical cabaret, exposing the ineptitude of common people in life's twists and turns. His famous play, Jákobi and Lájdentál, incorporated trivialities into the friendship of two title characters, including envy, jealousy, desire for something different, and a bizarre love triangle. Debrecen English-Language Drama Festival

The  English-language drama festival, a weekend of electrifying theatrical performances of high school and university troupes from across Hungary, will take place on the 24th and 25th of May. Debrecen Drive 2024

Debrecen Drive is the largest automotive event in the region, offering participants not only the opportunity to explore vehicles up close but also to enjoy engaging demonstrations and a variety of activities. Children’s Day Weekend at Debrecen Zoo

On the 25th  and the 26th of May, children will take the  stage in the Zoo, where we'll be welcoming children and adults alike with a spring-renewed natural wonder and stars of the Baby Boom, unlimited theme park adventures and a grand programme of events, 100 children's activities over the two days, including music, magic and extreme sports. Free safari for children under 18 on Children’s Day at Hortobágy Wildlife Park

Hortobágy Wildlife Park's "extra" program is a 20-25-minute program, where visitors can see wild horses and ancient bullocks up close from an SUV vehicle.  The price of the program is  free for children under 18 on this day, 2,500 HUF/person for adults.  The program is available all day, the intention to participate in it needs to be indicated separately at Vadló buffet located within the Wildlife Park area. Please note that the extra safari is weather dependent. During the Night of Museums - museums, galleries, and cultural institutions open their doors to the public for extended hours, often in the evening and late night. These events aim to provide a unique and engaging experience for visitors by offering special exhibitions, guided tours, interactive activities, and performances. Zoo Camp Now Available for Expat Children in English

With the summer holidays fast approaching, Debrecen Zoo is happy to announce their first ever Expat Zoo Camp in English  between the 15th and 19th of July, offering local expat children Debrecen’s richest and most unique day camp experiences and activities on the wild side Monday through Friday. Campus Festival 2024

The Campus Festival is one of the country’s biggest popular music festivals. The open-air music festival takes place in July and features more than 200 concerts and DJ performances in 19 venues, as well as a wide range of other events every year. In addition to Hungarian bands, international artists such as Dutch DJ Tiesto, Norwegian singer Aurora, Swedish pop diva Zara Larsson and British duo Chase & Status have also performed at the event. It is going to be the 16th Campus Festival. Event ended with a total of 118,000 visitors over the course of four days, making it the largest festival in Eastern Hungary. The Campus Festival has been a safe, family-friendly, cultured festival for several years, touching all age groups.In addition to the entertainment, the University Square, dreamed up by the University of Debrecen, has played an important role at the festival for years, one of the most visited daytime program locations at the festival every year. Wine and Jazz Festival 2024

Debrecen Flower Carnival 2024

The 20th August is the national and state holiday of Hungary and the anniversary of the consecration of Stephen I of Hungary. In Debrecen, it is also the day of the Flower Carnival. It is a real attraction, drawing in visitors from across the country and internationally ever since it was first organised in 1966. With a 56-year tradition, the carnival is now far more than just a parade of spectacular floral compositions and international artistic ensembles, – it is a week-long colourful programme of events where visitors can find the entertainment that appeals to them most. More than 1,500 Hungarian and foreign carnival parade participants and about half a million live flowers arrive at the Debrecen Flower Carnival, taking place between the 14th and 20th of August every year.
