At the market visitors can buy products directly from local farmers and artisans at favourable prices in the heart of the city centre. Products on offer are meat products, cheeses, honey, vinegar, fresh vegetables, pickles, etc. Programs: Local farmers and artisans sell their products at reasonable prices  Book swap point: Visitors can choose from hundreds of books. Any of the books can be exchanged for a  book of your own or taken away for a nominal donation. Latin Fiesta Street Dance Evening

Dancers and non-dancers are cordially invited to the Latin Fiesta Street Dance taking place in the heart of Debrecen, on Dósa nádor square on the 20th of July.  This special event is for all those who love to dance, those who simply love to listen to these beautiful melodies and all those who are interested. The magic of Latin music and dance at the rhythm-filled evening will transport the audience to the world of Caribbean sunsets where participants can explore salsa, merengue and bachata and experience the liberated atmosphere of street carnivals. Hungarikum Gala Concert

On Saturday, the 20th of July, the audience will hear excerpts from the works of the greatest Hungarian composers in a nearly 80-minute concert. On 20 July, Coopera's highly successful Hungarikum Gala Concert, which has become a tradition in Debrecen, will return to the Nagyerdei Open-Air Stage. The nearly 80-minute concert featuring more than 100 stage performers, will evoke cultural values through our musical traditions and promises to be an unforgettable summer experience. (Hungarikum is a generic term that denotes a value worthy of distinction, worthy of highlighting, which, with its characteristic features, uniqueness, distinctiveness and quality, is the peak achievement of Hungarians.) The concert will feature excerpts from the works of our greatest Hungarian composers evoking the best-known melodies of Béla Bartók, Ferenc Erkel, Zoltán Kodály and Imre Kálmán, among others. In addition to the greats of musical theatre, such as opera and operetta, the Hungarikum Gala Concert will also pay tribute to folk music and folk dance, as well as classical world hits inspired by Hungarian rich musical motifs, through the Hungarian dances of Johannes Brahms. Memorial Exhibition Opens in MODEM on the 21st of July

Mária Berhidi's retrospective exhibition, opening on the second floor of MODEM, aims to reveal the full extent of the late artist's somewhat hidden, sensitive and sensual conceptual-minimalist sculptural oeuvre, her personal and professional collaboration with fellow artists, and her influential work as an art organiser. Berhidi's art evolved from body torsos to quasi-geometric compositions using stone from quarries' waste.  She used materials like wood, textiles, metal, and found objects in installations. From 2007 for 15 years she was the artist curator of the Óbuda Society Gallery, promoting the youngest artists and presenting rarely published works. This influenced MODEM, which aimed to promote installation art and contemporary sculpture with individual voices. The exhibition will be opened by art historian Katalin Aknai on the 20th of July, at 4:00 p.m., with a welcome speech by Executive Director of MODEM, Kata Vizi,  followed by a curatorial guided tour with Szabolcs Süli-Zakar and Gábor Andrási. Learning from Nature? – MODEM Symposium Programs Open to the Public

Every edition of the Debrecen International Artist in Residence (DAIR) operating since 2006, is built around a theme. In addition to creation, the symposium’s workflow emphasises collective thinking reflected in the symposium’s programs, which are open to the public. This year’s theme is summed up with the question and suggestion as“Learning from Nature?” The focus of this year’s Artist in Residence program is on the broadly conceived discipline of botany. Many significant moments in the history of botany in Hungary can be traced back to the city of Debrecen, such as the Herbarium (1578), annotated by Péter Juhász Méliusz, considered the first herbarium in Hungarian, and the two-volume Hungarian Herbarium by Sámuel Diószegi and Mihály Fazekas, which, according to Linné’s system (Debrecen, 1807), is the first publication of modern Hungarian botany. In addition to creative and research work, this year’s DAIR will be enriched with lectures and discussions. Budapest Bar Concert at Nagyerdei Water Tower

Budapest Bar concerts are consistently enjoyable, diverse, and engaging, featuring a variety of styles, tunes, eras, sounds, and personalities, crafted by talented musicians and exceptional singer-performer performances, this time on the 9th of August, the two-hour light-hearted concert at Nagyerdei Water Tower will feature Juci Németh, Bora Ferenczi, Frenk, László Kollár-Klemencz, and Krisztián Szűcs. Campus Festival 2024

The Campus Festival, being a safe, family-friendly, cultured festival for several years, touching all age groups, is one of the country’s biggest popular music festivals. The open-air music festival this year takes place between the 24th and the 28th of July featuring  more hundreds of concerts and DJ performances, as well as a wide range of other events. Debrecen's biggest playground is preparing for its second birthday this year, and the children's book days will be part of it. A New Exhibition Titled Family Stranger Opens at MODEM

The opening of the Modem Modern and Contemporary Art Center's newest exhibition Family Stranger by Dutch-Polish photographer Wiosna van Bon awaits visitors on the 7th of August from 6.00 p.m. at Project Space. At the opening welcoming thoughts will be shared and a guided tour given by MODEM's Chief Curator Tamás Don. One of the important missions of Modem Project Space is to present young foreign artists to the Debrecen audience. The first step in this endeavour is the solo exhibition Family Stranger by Dutch-Polish photographer Wiosna van Bon. The photo series deals with families in which one of the members has been imprisoned. In a lyrical, abstract way, the artist presents the psychological processes that family members and prisoners potentially go through during their time in prison.  The pictures were taken in prison and in or around the homes of family members. They are complemented by various objects, mostly toys, which mostly refer to the parent-child relationship and the carefree world outside, as a counterpoint to the harshness of prison. “Old dance, New Generation” – Performance of Hungarian National Dance Ensemble on Open-Air Stage

Folk dance inextricably intertwined generations, it knows no boundaries of geography or time. It is the transmission of knowledge that has ensured its survival in the past and is its future today. It was in this spirit that Kossuth Prize-winning choreographer and Merited Artist of the Republic of Hungary Zoltán Zsuráfszky invited seven of his exceptionally talented young colleagues to bring their innovative vision to the stage with the help of Hungary's largest professional dance company. These young choreographers can of course be seen at amateur dance festivals, but this is the first time they will be able to present their work to the public with a professional company.
