A farmers' market with the widest range of products in the city, the Church Market opens on the third Saturday of every month at 8.00 a.m. in the courtyard of the Debrecen Great Church Congregation Centre, at 2 Leány Street. The next time it opens its doors on the 17th of August.  Local farmers and artisans sell their products at reasonable prices in the heart of the city centre offering smoked pork products, meats, cheeses, jams, vegetables, pickles, artisan gifts and much more.  As tradition has it, this time there will be “slambuc” (traditional Hungarian dish made from potatoes, pasta and bacon cooked in a pot)  and a book exchange point. Slag Motorcycle Competition – 49th Debrecen Grand Prix

This year, the Debrecen Grand Prix, Hungary's most prestigious and traditional international slag motor race, will be held for the 49th time. The international field is made up of 16 riders, many of them from professional leagues, World Cups and World Championships, who will compete in the 20 heats, followed by 2 exciting semi-finals and a spectacular 5 man final to decide who will be the champion of Debrecen in 2024. In addition to the excitement of the race, fans will have the unique opportunity to meet and take selfies with international stars. Carmina Burana on the Stage of Nagyerdei Open-Air Theatre

Carl Orff's monumental musical masterpiece, Carmina Burana comes to life in a spectacular dance theatre adaptation by the Szeged Contemporary Ballet on the stage of Nagyerdei Open-Air Theatre on the 22nd of August. The piece was revived in 2000 as a spectacular dance theatre adaptation by the Szeged Contemporary Ballet. For 23 years now, Tamás Juronics' iconic choreography has been one of the most outstanding works of the Hungarian contemporary dance scene, attracting thousands of audiences at home, across Europe and overseas, and winning the company numerous audience and professional awards. Carmina Burana vividly captures the shared fears and joys of an imaginary barbarian community as it struggles for its own survival and humanity. The length of the play is 70 min, in case of rain the event will be held on the 23rd of August. THE 3X3 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Since 2015, there have been 20 three-on-three competitions in Kossuth Square, the most of any host city. Continuing the annual tradition, Debrecen will welcome the finest talents in the 3×3 basketball world during the last week of August. Alongside the World Championships, the city's main square, set against the stunning backdrop of the Reformed Great Church, will host the World Tour Masters, showcasing the top-ranked professional teams. The mayor also announced that the City of Debrecen and FIBA have extended the agreement on the organisation of 3x3 basketball events until 2026. Special Night Event with the Zsuzsi Forest Railway on the 24th of August

Zsuzsi Forest Railway is preparing for a summer closing programme and invites visitors to a special night event on the 24th of August, celebrating the predators of the night, owls and stars. A special feature of the closing forest event of the summer is that the location of the event can be reached by the 142-year-old Zsuzsi Forest Railway. Programmes: 7.00 p.m. - Departure  of the Zsuzsi Forest Railway 8.00 p.m -  Gathering and welcome 8.10 p.m - Night Nature Walk 9.00 p.m. - Owl watch 9.30 p.m. - Stargazing 9.30 p.m. - “Lanterns to collect in the museum!” 10.30 p.m. - Return of the Zsuzsi Forest Railway The hike is approximately 3 kilometres long, so it is recommended to wear comfortable hiking shoes and layered, closed clothing to adapt to the night temperatures. Season Opener Event of Vojtina Puppet Theatre

The Vojtina Puppet Theatre Company will open the new season with its traditional season-opening celebration on Sunday, the 25th of August at 10 a.m. in the Memorial Garden behind the Great Church.  The repertoire of the event includes two performances.  First, the performance titled Piglet and Goose, with two giddy heroes, will be the main attraction for young and old. Krisztina Tóth's stories, which are delightful for children and their parents alike, are full of humour, making the performance a real family experience.  The title of the other performance is Aubergine cream Székelymenyecske style  (Székely folk tale figure) is a folk tale flavoured with folk songs, performed by Anna Markó-Valentyik.  There will be stilt walking, all sorts of interesting Renaissance games to try, and of course, crafts, puppet making and bean cuddling for the little ones. The members of the company will be joined by musicians to provide the entertainment, but before the performances, there will also be a gastronomic and culinary skills competition. 4th Szaft ‘N Burger – The Most Delicious Burgers in the Heart of the Great Forest

Once again, the country's burger is made in Debrecen with the 4th Szaft 'N Burger opening its doors on Saturday (the 7th of September) in the Great Forest.  The organisers will welcome visitors with spectacular demonstrations, exciting performances, live music and a steak-frying show on the shores of Lake Békás.The national competition will decide whose burger will be the "Burger of the Country".  Teams of friends, companies and families are also awaited with competitions in individual, amateur, freestyle (anything but beef) and junior categories.  The event will also include professional burger and barbecue classes, live music, delicious home brews and, of course, burgers and barbecue delicacies. Debrecen Antiques Fairs on the 8th of September

On the 8th of September from 7 a.m. the Mecca of antiques awaits again visitors loving the market atmosphere with a wide range of  antique items. 25 years ago, the first meeting of antique lovers was held in Debrecen, at a completely different venue back then. This event has been a great success ever since, attracting not only visitors but also a large number of vendors from the eastern part of the country.  The Debrecen Antiques Fair offers from thousands of volumes, to precious paintings and porcelain, to LEGO figures, to family silverware or old classic Sokol radios. Exhibition Titled “Studio in the Open Air” Opens at Partium House

The Partium House in Debrecen, part of the Hungarian Houses network, opened its doors in our city at the end of 2020. After a short summer break, they are open again to welcome visitors and prepare for the autumn events.  The first of these programmes, opening on the 10th of September, will be an exhibition of works by painters from Debrecen and Oradea.  One of the highlights of this year's Festum Varadinum (one of the largest cultural events of the Hungarian community in Oradea) was the "Studio in the Open Air" programme on the 18th of May during which nearly twenty artists created on the banks of the Sebes River in Oradea. The works created there are now coming to Debrecen.  A few weeks later, on the 18th of September, the poet from Arad, Zoltán Böszörményi will present an author's evening at the Partium House, and on the 5th of October, a local history excursion will be organised to Nagyszalonta and Arad.    Date: from 10 September  Location: Partium House, 81 Piac Street   Source: dehir.hu
